Two USDA programs fund Purchase Local AZ, 1) Local Food Purchasing Assistance (LFPA) Cooperative Agreement and 2) Local Food for Schools (LFS) Cooperative Agreement. The funding will improve food and agricultural supply chain resiliency by supporting local, regional, and socially disadvantaged food producers by purchasing local food to distribute in rural, remote, or underserved communities. Arizona Department of Economic Security and Arizona Department of Education will disburse AZ's allocation, $12 million over 2 years, most of which must purchase local food.
